Ronald Francis Collingbourne, a beloved community figure and dedicated family man, passed away at Greater Niagara Hospital, Niagara Falls on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 16, 1939, in Toronto, Ron was raised in a close-knit family environment that instilled in him the values of hard work, community service, and commitment to family.
A proud alumnus of St. James Elementary School and St. Michael's College School in Toronto, Ron cherished the connections he made during his formative years. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Anne Snyders, with whom he embarked on a journey of love and devotion that spanned several decades. Together, they welcomed five children into their family, starting in North Bay and continuing their journey through Kitchener, Scarborough, and Montreal, eventually settling in Barrie in 1972, where they cultivated a nurturing home for their children.
Ron’s professional life was marked by a remarkable career in the petroleum industry, beginning with the Air Force and leading to an esteemed position at Petro Canada, formerly British Petroleum. Over an impressive 42-year career, he excelled from the mailroom to the boardroom, managing various departments and leaving a significant mark on the company’s development.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron was deeply committed to his community. He played a pivotal role in various initiatives, including the funding and development of St. Joseph's High School and the establishment of St. John Vianney Parish. His influence extended to organizing key events, such as leading the carrying of the torch for the Calgary Games, and he had the honor of serving in the honor guard to greet Pope John Paul II during his visit to Martyr’s Shrine. A dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Ron's selfless actions and passion for community enrichment defined his legacy as a pillar of the region.
Ron's zest for life also included a love for travel, having journeyed with Mary Anne to experience diverse cultures and landscapes across the globe. Among his favourites were Greece, the Baltics, Morocco, Australia, New Zealand, China, and visiting all 50 American states. He was known for his engaging storytelling, passion for sports, and appreciation of music—attributes that enriched the lives of those around him. Through his kindness and generosity, Ron made every corner of his world a better place.
Beloved husband of Mary Anne (nee Snyders) for 65 years. Devoted father to Gerry (Sue), John (Sara), Anne Marie (Gill), and predeceased by sons David (Jeanette) and Chris.
