Linda Lester

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Linda Lester (Fraser) on the 31st of May after a nearly 12-year battle with dementia. Linda passed away peacefully at Woods Park Nursing Home, where for the last eight years received excellent care by Christie and the many staff of the Birch Woods (3A) unit.

She is survived by her husband Don (“Red”), their two daughters Kristen (Matt) and Julie (Darren), and their grandchildren, Abigail, Reese, Charlie and Rory.  

Don and Linda met as kids, spending their summers together with friends and siblings on Sawlog (Georgian) Bay where their parents had cottages across the road from each other. Don and Linda were married in July 1970.

Linda was kind, passionate about her family and had a quiet sense of humour. In addition to spending her summers sailing with Don and their daughters, she enjoyed various creative activities that included baking, rug hooking and gardening, often being referred to as having a strong “green thumb”. She also loved her work as an elementary school teacher, and for most of her career helped children with learning differences.

She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Since 1974, Don and Linda have lived in Barrie. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, between 2-5pm at Legacy Funeral Home, Barrie (entrance and parking on HWY 400 side of building).

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada.
