Ira-Jane Wilton (nee Bateman) January 1, 1943 - March 20, 2023
We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Ira-Jane Wilton (nee Bateman) who has now reunited with her husband, Rick Wilton. The two of them shared over 50 wonderful years together. Both of them artists in their own right who shared many of their creative talents with family and friends.
Ira-Jane was born in 1943 and raised in Toronto to parents Gordon and Mayme Walton Bateman. Ira-Jane graduated from the University of Toronto and after marrying Rick, moved to Sudbury where she began her teaching career.
Ira-Jane started her career as a life sciences teacher and progressed to a special education teacher. Toward the end of her career, Ira-Jane became one of the few teachers for the blind within the Sudbury school district. She touched many children through her many years of teaching. Ira-Jane also had a profound love for her local community and the many organizations that she participated in.
Her memory will live on with her sister, Yvonne Bridgman, her nieces Wendy Terry and Shelley Bridgman, their partners Paul Terry and Steve Lemmon and their children Coleman (Ashley), Robin (Rory) and Carley. She will also be fondly remembered by her extended Wilton family.
Cremation has taken place. Interment for both Ira-Jane and Rick will be held in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Mt. Brydges, ON at a future date.
A celebration of life will be held later in the spring in her community.
Ira has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to War Amps Canada at www.waramps.ca or 1-800-250-3030, or to a charity of your choice.
