Harold passed away surrounded by family at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. He is survived by his wife Millie, brother Richard, son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and many, many friends.
He is best remembered for his larger than life presence as much for his size as for his personality and commitment to his community and colleagues. He was one of three boys born to Frank and Yvonne Danby who loved to spend time at the farm, belonging to the Scouts and practicing his faith. As an adult, Harold had an exemplary 32-year career with the Toronto Paramedic Service. After retirement, he would continue to engage and reach out to colleagues near and far and arranged for retired Paramedic Pioneers to meet several times a year for a breakfast in Barrie.
Harold had many passions such as cooking, lawn bowling, coin collecting, family trees, breeding German Shepherds, wine making and music to name just a few. Never one to sit idly by Harold was always going for drives with Millie either to the farm near Grafton or north to Penatanguishene just for lunch or to Orillia to get his favourite meat pies and ice cream. Trips to the Elvis Festival in Collingwood were a yearly tradition with his love for the oldies.
Although in later years, he suffered some health concerns, he never let that deter him from helping those he could in many ways. Harold kept meticulous records of those he kept in touch with, some daily just to check on them and say hello. His life of service extended into his personal life with his efforts to assist with rides, participating in church functions and running errands for those unable to.
He will be fondly remembered by family, the Pioneers, the many neighbours and friends. Harold was a cherished man who will be missed by those he leaves behind.
