George Lawrence Leonard

Born September 26 1927

Died January 10 2024

Predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Nadia

George passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 96 in Barrie Ontario, his home for the last 23 years.

He is survived by his sons, Gary (June) and Glen (Tannis), grandchildren Melissa, Jeremy and Shannon, great grandchildren Landon, Cache, Isabella, Greyson and Scarlett.

George had a long and varied work life mostly in sales. He retired at 81 years old to look after Nadia. He was well liked in his condo building and enjoyed making others laugh. He loved his sports, especially the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs. He had a special place in his heart for goalies and catchers having played both in his younger days. He was very proud of his time with the Toronto Marlboros when Harold Ballard owned the team. He went on to play goal for the Dumferline Vikings and the Perth Panthers of the Scottish Professional hockey league for 3 years just after World War II leaving Canada on his 18th birthday in 1945 on the RMS Aquitania.

Thank you to Cornelia, Shannon Cassell, Curtis and Angelique for being there for him. Thanks also to Katherine, Nia and the staff of Mulcaster Mews.
